There are many items that your pet may find enticing to eat in and around your house that you least expect. It is best to keep as many items out of your pets reach as possible. When your pet ingests something it shouldn’t he/she may pass it naturally, or the item may have to be surgically removed from the pet’s stomach or intestines. Clinical signs of foreign bodies vary from patient to patient. Vomiting however is a common sign. If you believe your pet has ingested a foreign object please call your veterinarian ASAP.

Here are a few things we have surgically removed from pets:

  • Gorilla Glue
  • Pee Pads
  • Magic Mittens
  • Bouncy Ball
  • Nylons
  • Underwear
  • Rocks
  • Golf Balls
  • Plastic Bags
  • Sewing Needles
  • Tinsel
  • Piece of a horse halter
  • Socks
  • Nerf Ball
  • Broken Glass

Toxic Ingestions

Your pet may also find poisonous items enjoyable to eat. For example mouse poison, tobacco, lilies and poinsettias are just a few. This is an emergency! Contact your veterinarian right away! Consider the placement of these objects and ensure your pet doesn’t have access to them. Prevention is the best way to avoid accidental ingestion.
